A Reflective Pictorial Ballad

When a well-meaning ring-tailed lemur sees a crow tangled in a bowl of twine, he leaps into action—literally—snapping the threads to “save” her. But the crow’s furious cawing and frantic escape leave him baffled. Only when another lemur points out the truth—that the crow wasn’t trapped at all but building her nest—does his good intention unravel into an uncomfortable lesson. In this gentle tale of assumptions and misunderstandings, a lemur must confront the cost of helping without listening, and discover that true kindness begins with asking what someone actually needs.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

This reflective piece is meant to discuss themes of perception, assumptions, and the consequences of acting without empathy or inquiry. It illustrates how good intentions don’t always lead to good outcomes when one fails to understand another’s perspective.

Children's Fable

A ring-tailed lemur finds a frantic, female crow,

Moving her frantic, feathery head to and fro.

He sees her perched above in his tree,

Where she is trapped inside twine shaped in a bowl.

The lemur watches the crow madly pick and pull,

The twine in her beak that’s crammed full.

The heavy branch bobs and bounces,

As if she is drowning within a deep pool.
